International Conference on Women’s Leadership held in Belgrade, Serbia

International conference on women’s leadership was held on March 9 – 11, 2012 at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. The conference was organized by the Serbian Unity Congress Serbia and Serbian-American Women’s Leadership Network, with the support from USAID and National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

The conference was dedicated to women’s leadership and how women leaders are contributing to the development of modern societies. During the three days of the conference discussion focused on two main topics: women leadership in politics and public administration and women’s leadership – management styles, characteristics, perspectives and challenges. In addition, conference participants had the opportunity to hear discussions on three separate panels, with topics: women’s leadership in scientific cooperation and education, women’s leadership in security and women’s leadership in economics and entrepreneurship.

This was a rare opportunity, which brought together over 150 prominent women leaders from Serbia, the United States and South Eastern Europe. At the conference sessions and panels spoke 35 prominent women leaders, among others, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia President, prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic; H.E. U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Mary Burce Warlick, Elizabeth Sullivan, Senior Pollicy Adviser in the Office of Global Women’s Issues in the U.S. State Department, Mirjana Samardzija, President of the Serbian Unity Congress in the United States, Anita McBride, former Assistant to U.S. President George W. Bush and Senior Councelor, APCO, prof. Dr. Tanja Miscevic, State Secretary, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia; Petra Blas Rafajlovski former Vice President of German Bundestag; Natasa Vuckovic, MP and Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe; Aleksandra Drecun, Director of the Center for the Promotion of Science of Serbia, Patricia Zemple, Associate Director, Program Review Division, the U.S. Office of Government Ethics and many other prominent leaders of the United States, Serbia and South Eastern Europe.

The conference was organized as a part of the “Serbian-American Women’s Leadership Network.” The main aim of “Serbian-American Women’s Leadership Network” is to connect Serbia and the United States through the cooperation of women leaders from both countries.
The conference was officialy opened by the academic choir “Obilic”, Academic Cultural Artistic Society “Branko Krsmanovic”, conducted by Mrs. Darinka Matic Marovic, who performed the song “Vostani Serbije” and “I wonna be ready.” In honor of participants on the first day of the conference was organized a formal reception with a short cultural and artistic program. Our prominent actors: Tanja Boskovic, Dara Dzokic, Goran Sultanović, Katarina and Sofia Gojković Juričan performed an excerpt from the play “Zvezdarske zvezdice” by Gorica Popovic.

International Conference on Women’s Leadership will take place at The National Parliament of the Republic of Serbia on 9.-11. March 2012.

Serbian Unity Congress, USAID  in Serbia and the National Parliament of  the Republic of Serbia are organizing  International conference  in Belgrade, Serbia with  the aim  to promote women’s leadership and develop connections between women  leaders  from US, Serbia and  the South East European region in order to cooperate in their areas of expertise.

The Conference will gather leading women leaders from area of politics, business, science etc. from US, Serbia and South East Europe region, such as Ambassadors, CEOs of  International companies, MPs and Ministers  from  the  region, Scientists, Professors and others.

Conference is held under patronage of the President of the National Parliament of the Republic Serbia, Mrs. Slavica Djukic Dejanovic.

Visit of the Serbian women leaders delegation to the United States

From October 19 to 26, 2011 the delegation of 16 representatives of the Women’s Leadership Network from Serbia visited the United States. This visit was  organised by the Serbian Unity Congress (SUC) with the assistance and financial support from USAID as part of the Serbian – American Women’s Leadership Network project.

Leadership meeting concerning the „Serbian-American women’s leadership network” project held

SUC USA President Ms. Mirjana Samrdzija and SUC Serbia President Ms. Slavka Draskovic met with a group of women leaders from Serbia who were chosen to travel on a study tour to the U.S. This gathering, held in the hall of the Rowing Club” Red star” on Ada, was an opportunity for the group members to get to know each other better.
